Choosing the Right LED Display
What types of LED displays does LEDX manufacture?
LEDX manufactures fine-pitch, indoor, outdoor and rental Active LED displays, as well as indoor and outdoor LED modules. The portfolio supports applications ranging from boardrooms, studios and control rooms to retail, events, stadiums and digital out-of-home advertising.
How do I choose the right LED display for my application?
Choose an LED display based on viewing distance, screen size, ambient light, content resolution, installation environment, operating hours and maintenance access. Indoor close-viewing applications generally need a smaller pixel pitch, while outdoor screens require higher brightness and suitable weather protection. LEDX can recommend a configuration after reviewing the project conditions.
What pixel pitch should I choose for an LED display?
The right pixel pitch depends mainly on the closest viewing distance and required image detail. Smaller pixel pitches are suited to close-viewing applications such as boardrooms, studios and control rooms. Larger pixel pitches are generally suitable for bigger indoor or outdoor screens viewed from farther away. Screen dimensions, content and budget should also be considered.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor LED displays?
Indoor LED displays are designed for controlled lighting and close viewing, so they typically use lower brightness and finer pixel pitches. Outdoor LED displays require higher brightness, weather-resistant construction and suitable IP protection to perform in sunlight, dust, rain and changing temperatures. The correct choice depends on the actual installation environment.
What fine-pitch LED display options does LEDX manufacture?
LEDX manufactures fine-pitch Active LED displays ranging from 0.78 mm to 1.8 mm across its LT, AP and AC Series. Depending on the application, buyers can choose from COB and SMD display technologies for boardrooms, broadcast studios, control rooms, command centers and premium commercial environments.
What is the difference between COB and SMD LED displays?
COB and SMD describe different LED packaging methods. In SMD displays, packaged LEDs are mounted on the PCB; in COB displays, LED chips are bonded directly to the board and protected as a surface. COB can provide a robust, smooth display surface for fine-pitch applications, while SMD remains widely used across indoor and outdoor products. The better option depends on pitch, environment, serviceability and budget.
Which applications are LEDX displays designed for?
LEDX displays are designed for corporate boardrooms, control and command centres, broadcast studios, retail, hospitality, education, live events, stadiums, outdoor billboards and DOOH networks. Product selection is based on the required brightness, viewing distance, operating environment, screen geometry and maintenance approach.
Can LEDX customize an LED display for a specific application or brand?
Yes. LEDX works closely with customers to develop purpose-built LED display solutions based on their vision, technical requirements and operating environment. Its engineering and R&D teams can customize LED modules, cabinet dimensions, enclosure design, brightness, colour calibration, mechanical configuration, finishes and system integration to deliver optimal performance, reliability and long-term value.
What is LEDX’s co-innovation process?
LEDX’s co-innovation process begins by understanding the customer’s vision, application, technical requirements and operating environment. Its engineering and R&D teams then combine proven building blocks—such as PCBs, modules and cabinets—or develop new components where required to create, prototype, manufacture and test a purpose-built solution. Once developed, the design can be efficiently scaled for long-term and repeat requirements.
Quality, Testing and Compliance
What quality checks does an LEDX display undergo?
LEDX applies quality checks from incoming components through final dispatch. Depending on the product, these include incoming quality control, solder paste inspection, AOI, module testing and ageing, conformal coating inspection, cabinet assembly checks, IP testing, cabinet ageing and final visual and performance validation.
What are IQC, SPI and AOI in LED display manufacturing?
IQC checks incoming materials and components before production. SPI uses 3D inspection to verify solder paste volume and placement before components are mounted. AOI uses automated imaging to inspect assembled PCBs for placement, polarity and soldering defects. Together, these controls help detect issues before modules move to later production stages.
Why is ageing or burn-in testing important for an LED display?
Ageing, also known as burn-in testing, involves operating LED modules or finished displays under controlled conditions to identify early component failures, brightness or colour inconsistencies, thermal issues and unstable connections. At LEDX, modules undergo four hours of initial ageing, while finished products may undergo extended ageing for up to 72 hours under defined patterns and load conditions, depending on the product and project requirements.
What do IP65 and IP66 ratings mean for an outdoor LED display?
IP ratings describe protection against solid particles and water. The first digit ‘6’ indicates dust-tight protection. The second digit indicates the level of water protection: IP65 covers water jets, while IP66 covers more powerful water jets under defined test conditions. The rating applies only to the tested product configuration and should match the installation environment.
Which certifications are available for LEDX products?
Certification availability varies by product series and destination market. Selected LEDX products are available with applicable CE, FCC, RoHS, ETL and BIS requirements. Buyers should request product-specific certificates before placing an order.
Are LEDX displays designed for energy efficiency?
Yes. LEDX offers energy-efficient display solutions such as the outdoor ET Series, which uses dual-voltage LED technology—3.2V for red and 4.2V for green and blue—to reduce power consumption by at least 30% without compromising brightness. Energy-saving driver ICs, high-efficiency PFC power supplies, heat-sink-based thermal management and a fanless cabinet design further minimise energy loss and operating costs.
Actual power consumption varies by product variant, brightness level, pixel pitch, content and operating hours.
